Bereaved parent and TCF volunteer, Sheila, writes about her next supportive walk...
Hi! I am Sheila and will be leading this walk through the stunning Cumbrian countryside with my faithful spaniel cross, Rosie. We invite bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us, and well-behaved dogs are also welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.
We will start from the pretty market town of Keswick** and walking along the old railway line, now an interesting footpath, to the village of Threlkeld where we will stop for refreshments at the little café before returning to Keswick via the hamlet of Wescoe along a winding country road with beautiful mountain views, then through woodland where we might be lucky enough to spot some red squirrels and roe deer.
The walk is approximately 6.5 miles in total and is mostly flat on good paths and quiet roads apart from a couple of short, steep upward and downward sections on a tarmac road on the return to Keswick. At a steady pace, with a break at the café mid-way, it should take around 3 hours. Please note this is a rural walk so you should have a reasonable level of fitness, wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs. This walk is not suitable for those with walking aids.
We will meet from 9:45, with a view to start walking at 10 am sharp. There is parking opposite the old railway building or at the old leisure pool. Please note the car parks are pay and display and please bring cash as the card option is not always available.

We ask that you wait until you have been bereaved for at least 3 months before joining our supportive walks. New walk dates are regularly added here, and we hope to welcome you at a future walk.
Our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause. We also offer support to bereaved grandparents and adult siblings (aged 18+)
Please call our Helpline on 0345 1232304 or email helpline@tcf.org.uk for support.
We look forward to seeing those who have walked with us before, and to welcome those who are joining us for the first time.
If you haven’t walked with us yet, please don’t feel daunted or anxious about joining. You’ll quickly find yourself part of a warm, friendly and supportive community of others who have experienced similar bereavements.
**A welcome email will be sent out approximately one week before the walk, providing additional information and details about the meeting point. This email will come from info@tcf.org.uk, so please keep an eye out for it. (It may sometimes end up in junk or spam folders, so please check there if you’ve registered and haven’t received the email.)
Please remember, if you bring a friend or relative for initial support, they will not be able to join the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent, or adult bereaved sibling.
As this is a supportive walk, we ask that you stay together as a group for the duration of the walk.
Please note that individuals join a TCF walk at their own risk.
