Whimsical Whinlatter Walk

Whimsical Whinlatter Walk

14 June 2025, 09.45

Whinlatter, Keswick

BOOK FOR THIS WALK

Bereaved parent and TCF volunteer, Sheila, writes about her next supportive walk...

Hi! My faithful spaniel cross, Rosie, and I are looking forward to leading our next walk around ‘Whimsical Whinlatter’ on Saturday 14 June 2025.

We invite bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.

This walk will see us explore England’s only true mountain forest, Whinlatter, near Keswick. We shall be following a circular trail of 3.5 miles which climbs 500m to the top of Seat How where we will stop for a “Brew with a View” overlooking stunning lake and mountain scenery. At this time of year, the purple heather may be starting to flower to further enhance the backdrop! Please note this walk is a moderate grade walk of about 2.5 hours and although it follows forest paths and trails there are some steep sections which can become muddy in wet weather. Therefore, a reasonable level of fitness and sturdy footwear are required. I would also strongly advise you to bring waterproofs. This walk is not suitable for those with walking aids.

We will meet from 9:45, with a view to start walking at 10am sharp. ***

Toilets are available at the start of the route and there is a pay on exit car park which accepts card payments. Prices range from £2.50 to £8.00 depending on the length of your stay. After the walk, please feel free to join us at the Visitor Centre Café for some lunch/refreshments.

***

We ask that you wait until you have been bereaved for at least 3 months before joining our supportive walks. New walk dates are regularly added here, and we hope to welcome you at a future walk.

Our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause. We also offer support to bereaved grandparents and adult siblings (aged 18+)

Please call our Helpline on 0345 1232304 or email helpline@tcf.org.uk for support.

We look forward to seeing those who have walked with us before, and to welcome those who are joining us for the first time.

If you haven’t walked with us yet, please don’t feel daunted or anxious about joining. You’ll quickly find yourself part of a warm, friendly and supportive community of others who have experienced similar bereavements.

**A welcome email will be sent out approximately one week before the walk, providing additional information and details about the meeting point. This email will come from info@tcf.org.uk, so please keep an eye out for it. (It may sometimes end up in junk or spam folders, so please check there if you’ve registered and haven’t received the email.)

Please remember, if you bring a friend or relative for initial support, they will not be able to join the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent, or adult bereaved sibling.

As this is a supportive walk, we ask that you stay together as a group for the duration of the walk.

Please note that individuals join a TCF walk at their own risk.
