Autumn 2022 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 11 TIME CAPSULE 1997 My name is Matthew Evans. I am age 12 and I have got 2 friends called Stuart Clark and Andrew Woolgar. I live at 28 Pentland Road Durrington Worthing and this is my back garden. I like these sweets called opal fruits and they cost 25p but you can get penny sweets. I have a bike and a remote controlled petrol car and it costs £150 and it goes 60mph. Thank you for reading this please seal up and berry again. From Matthew Stuart Evans. Then in April 2022 my lovely mum fell down her stairs and was put into palliative care because of a blood clot on her leg. This awful fall bought my sister and I closer. One day whilst drinking coffee and having a break from sitting with mum we started talking about the past and I bought up the time capsule in our conversation. Saying how lovely it would be to have it now. We joked about digging it up but sadly it was in my old house and I’m sure the new owners wouldn’t appreciate me digging up their patio. Mum sadly passed away on the 1st of April having lived for 93 years. On the last day of April I was unexpectedly contacted through face book about Matt’s time capsule via a friend of his. The new owners were changing their back garden and had dug up the patio only to come across it. Bearing in mind it had been underground for 22 years his letter was still legible along with the label from his favourite cream soda and the label from a jar of carrots. Other bits were not so lucky and had degraded but I am now the owner of my dear son’s letter. A precious gift from him when I needed it most. Much love Lesley Evans, Mum of Matt Evans
