Autumn 2022 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 18 happy memory can cut like a knife because it is only a memory and there will never be a new one. So we have to bear it. We do bear it, learning to enjoy life again, sharing in the good things that happen, to us and to our friends, because good things can happen, even when we believe that the happy times are gone forever. We look for them, because we are still alive and we need to bear witness to the joy Helen brought to us and to the world. We should remember that those we meet may well have experienced a similarly painful loss. How many of us are going about our lives showing only the cheerful top layer to the world, while experiencing in secret the depths of sorrow? We should be kind, to ourselves and to others, in the hope of assuaging the suffering a little. Jean Foxall Book Reviews A selection of poems I heard your voice in the wind today And I turned to see your face; The warmth of the wind caressed me As I stood silently in place. I felt your touch in the sun today And its warmth filled the sky; I closed my eyes for your embrace And my spirit soared high. I saw your eyes in the window pane As I watched the falling rain; It seemed as each raindrop fell It quietly said your name. I held you close in my heart today It made me feel complete; You may have died…..but you are not gone You will always be a part of me. As long as the sun shines… The wind blows… The rain falls… You will live on inside of me forever For that is all my heart knows (author unknown). I heard your voice
