Compassion Autumn 2022

Autumn 2022 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 27 I did. For him. "What do you see mamma?" A sea of hands. "Reach out to them mamma. They want to help you off your knees". I didn't care. I didn't want to get up. But the voice was too powerful. "Get off your knees mamma. Go where they take you" I followed and I saw something extraordinary. "What do you see mamma?" I saw a congregation of people. On their knees too. Searching and looking and piecing something together. They were devoted to their task. "What are they doing?" The boy asked. "They're picking up bits of glass son. They're trying to stick together bits of glass!" If I could remember how to laugh I would have laughed then. A sad, hysterical laugh. But I couldn't remember how to laugh. "Why son. Why are they doing something so futile?" "That's not glass mamma. That's your heart". "My shattered heart" "Yes" "I recognise some of them son, but some of them I've never met before". "You'll know them soon mamma. They are your team. They are your 'heart menders' ". "It's pointless son. They can stop. Sweep it away. I have no use for some glued up shards" "They won't stop" "But it will never work. It will be ugly and broken. It can't be restored" "It will always be broken. But it will never be ugly. It can be put back together. And it will look different. But it will be" "What are they using?" "They're using what was inside. The thing that binds and gives beauty and meaning. The glue that forms and reforms. It's all there. It just needs to be fixed" "This cannot be fixed. What can mend a broken heart?" "You know what it is mamma.....A thing so pure and so simple. What is stored in your heart?" "It's Love, son. Only love"
