Compassion Autumn 2022

Autumn 2022 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 7 positive atmosphere. But most of all I think what the retreats provide is an opportunity for bereaved parents to simply be themselves without having to put on the mask. The weekends are dedicated to those who attend as well as to the children that are sadly and tragically no longer with us. And as for those of us that volunteered it is both a pleasure and a privilege to be assisting other bereaved parents as best we can. For me personally it is a two-way street. I say that it is a privilege because I feel that I, like all of the volunteers, get so very much out of the weekend and each time learn so very much from other bereaved parents. So a huge thank you to everyone who attended the Woodbrooke retreat, both parents and the most wonderful group of volunteers. If you have not been on a TCF retreat please do give it consideration and please do not hesitate to get in contact with the TCF office to discuss any questions that you might have about the retreats. Before closing this edition’s ‘Thoughts’. I want to mention our dear Gina Claye the editor of this Compassion magazine for several years. For those who have been on a retreat and for those who were at Woodbrooke at the retreat for parents bereaved by suicide or substance use you will know that Gina has been a key feature and volunteer of our retreats for many years. It was lovely to share the opening and closing words with Gina at Woodbrooke this year. Gina has always put so much effort into the retreats and everything TCF including this magazine. Sadly, Gina has not been very well recently, and although she was unable to undertake her usual editorship role for this edition she continued to be adamant that this edition of Compassion was produced as usual. I am sure that you will all join with me in wishing Gina a very speedy recovery, sending her our thoughts and love. Gina - we look forward to seeing you fully recovered very soon. Thanks to all who stepped in to ensure the collation and production of this magazine. As always I want to thank all TCF staff and volunteers for their incredible work and to all of you bereaved parents and siblings. I hope that you are able to find time to rest over this summer period and I send you my very best and warmest wishes. Keep safe and well. Andrew Miller (Fabian’s Dad) #OnlyLove
