Compassion Spring 2022

Spring 2022 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 23 “…..obviously you won’t feel any joy either.” Precisely. To remove all feeling would be to feel nothing and….. “…..what is the point of that?” Survival James. That’s why we do it. Because it keeps us going. We can carry on. We can work, engage, have meaningful interactions but sometimes it all feels so perfunctory. “Per what?” Look it up. That’s how I feel sometimes. And so there it is. I had a breakdown for an evening and I recalibrated. That’s my confession. “Ok mum. No judgement from me. But if you will allow me to make an observation?” Always. “It’s a good thing to find a way to survive this loss. It’s a good thing to find a way to function but it’s also a good thing to express feelings and emotions. Good ones or sad ones. Humans feel. That’s the beauty of our species. And while it might be tempting to dull your senses for the sake of survival, too much dulling will make you…..well, dull.” Spoken like a true wordsmith, James. Thank you for that wisdom. “You are welcome mum. There’s plenty more where that came from.” Oh good. I’m sure we are all keen to hear it over time. Thanks for listening son. “Always.” Maria Ahern Joy is a vase of tulips.
