Compassion, Spring 2023

Spring 2023 - Compassion | tcf.org.uk 21 ‘It was meant to be’ I often say I relent of those words every day Philosophy or religious belief I can't affirm when I face my grief A beautiful life pure and true Was taken from us before she knew The joy of love An adult life Mistakes to make Worry and strife Babies to bear A life to share She shone like a light funny and bright Her face follows me, her laughter I hear I want to believe she is somewhere near The meaning of life escapes us all To understand this is not our call The wound is deep forever there I walk in sunshine I breathe fresh air The pain is heavy it slows my pace Longing consumes to see her face Without the love, we feel no pain Inextricably joined as a link in a chain So my love lives on, the pain comes too I willingly pay the price for you ‘It was meant to be’ That can't be so To understand I'll never know LOSS by Sheila Forrester Book Reviews I recently attended the retreat weekend in Northampton during which I wrote this poem following the death of my granddaughter.
