Spring 2023 - Compassion | tcf.org.uk 22 My Challenge Bissie died aged 31 on Feb 2020 less than 8 weeks after showing the first symptoms of cancer. She was passionate about saving the planet from being a young teenager - long before Greta came into the limelight. She achieved a 1st from Oxford in Biological Studies and then went on to work for Unilever, deliberately chosen because she felt she could make a difference by propelling their change to making products more eco friendly. She always had flowers in her home. I have set myself the challenge of growing flowers to put on Bissie's grave each week. There were two weeks in deepest winter where the bunches were thin, one week where I put a card with an appliqué snowdrop on, and where others had laid flowers I added to them. I have four small raised flower beds and a potting shed which was built shortly after Bissie died. It is where I feel closest to her and know that she would have loved the fact that I have set myself this challenge. The following poem, ‘It’s Going to Take a Long Time’, portrays how I feel.
