15 tcf.org.uk COMPASSION | YOUR STORIES & POEMS Did love fade in despair Left dangling in mid-air. Did the light dim then die When no-one heard your cry. A love lies a-bleeding A father's fierce grieving. Brittle hopes too fragile To save your winsome smile. I measure out sadness In loving tenderness. I measure out the grief In gentle disbelief. I measure missing you, the times we shared too few. I measure your last cry, goodbye my son, goodbye. In the end love failed you It's beacon lost from view. Love comes at such a cost, Broken heart, all I've lost. A long, last lullaby, A tender, fond goodbye. Go gently, son and friend, In time my heart will mend. I measure out sadness in loving tenderness. I measure out the grief in gentle disbelief. I measure missing you, the times we shared too few. I measure your last cry, goodbye, Leo, goodbye. Tender sadness, gentle grief Shared by John Marshall I wrote these words in August 2022 following the death of my son, who took his own life on April 2nd 2022, his 35th birthday.
