Hugh wrote about this very special experience on the day: “This morning together with Maureen and my two sons, Peter and Hugh, I was delighted to formally receive the MBE from HRH Princess Anne for my voluntary work with The Compassionate Friends. It was a pleasure to speak with HRH who was really interested in the charity, how it all began and what my involvement was. Receiving an MBE is a wonderful privilege and holds immense significance, reflecting the dedication of all volunteers within our TCF community who tirelessly support bereaved parents and their families. They demonstrate the importance of hope, understanding, and empathy, as well as the extent to which we depend on one another throughout the most tragic periods of our lives”. A warm thank you to Hugh who has given so much to other bereaved parents and their families over the more than 30 years that he has volunteered with TCF. An MBE is a very special honour to receive and is a wholly fitting recognition for Hugh’s dedication and commitment to supporting others in memory of and to honour his son, Christopher.
