29 tcf.org.uk TCF NEWS | SUPPORTIVE EVENTS “I really loved this weekend and cannot thank you enough for putting things like this on. I was so sceptical about coming, I was worried I’d be too young… I have made some truly lovely friends that I hope to see again and cannot wait to be at the next retreat. I didn’t know I needed something like that and didn’t know there was even anything like it that existed so thank you for helping us all to feel heard and seen. I particularly loved the fact we were all on a level playing field, there was no icebreakers or getting to know peoples personal lives or stories it was primarily being there to talk about and relive our siblings lives, I felt so grounded and equal, not thinking my grief isn’t big enough or sad enough or recent enough compared to others”. “This was an excellent weekend and so very, very well run. The volunteers were all excellent and particularly Rachael in the leadership she gave in setting the scene and the weekend’s aims and ethos and providing guidance around this throughout, it really could not have been better. I also found the way all the volunteers were so involved as a team all of the time, in the background and popping up to add some information or guidance, yet at the same time staying completely connected as peers and able to share their own pain and lived experience. This was excellent in the way the roles were not mutually exclusive and did not engender any hierarchy and is something I’ve never seen happen before, so it was really special”. Sibling overnight retreat On the last weekend in April, at The Vedanta, a new venue close to Lincoln, 40 adult bereaved siblings gathered for an overnight retreat. Our volunteer team received much lovely feedback and we share a little of it with you here: A warm thank you to all our wonderful sibling volunteers who gave up their time to organise and support at the retreat – Becky, Jen, Rachael, Roma, Karen, Sarah, Ruth and Megan. Listen to Kim & Victoria participants in this year’s sibling retreat, talking about their experience on the TCF YouTube channel.
