Compassion and TCF News Summer 2024

32 tcf.org.uk TCF NEWS | NEWS FROM AROUND OUR CHARITY Volunteers Week In June, we participated in NCVO (National Council of Voluntary Organisations) 40th Volunteers Week. Two TCF volunteers, Jan Alcock and Sharon Walsh, recorded videos talking about their experience of volunteering with TCF and these were shared widely on social media. Thank you to Jan and Sharon for sharing their volunteering story – and a huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who use their devastating experience of loss to be alongside and offer hope to others when there can seem like there is none. We can’t thank you enough. You can listen to Jan and Sharon on the TCF YouTube channel. Jan Alcock Volunteers Week Helpline volunteers We are seeking additional volunteers to join our existing Helpline volunteer team, taking calls from your own home from bereaved parents, adult siblings, grandparents and sometimes professionals. If you can offer a compassionate listening ear and are free to join our helpline team over the next couple of months, we would love to hear from you now. Support group facilitators and co-facilitators We are also looking for volunteers to set up and co-facilitate support groups throughout Scotland, England and Wales for bereaved parents. Do you feel ready and willing to set up and co-facilitate support groups in areas of Scotland other than Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling where existing groups are located. We have gaps too in the south of England, specifically in or around Hove/Brighton/Worthing areas. More groups are needed also in Wales to add to our two existing groups in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan and Newtown, Powys. Our next training day for any volunteer interested in learning more about setting up and running a TCF support group takes place online on Monday 7 October, 9am – 4.30 pm online. If you are ideally more than 4 years bereaved and feel you would like to help other bereaved individuals in any of the above roles, we would love to hear from you. Contact Ruth at helpline@tcf.org.uk for more information. Grief companions We are also looking for mums or dads ideally bereaved 4 or more years of an older adult son or daughter by long term illness or cancer to support as a grief companion to parents in the first few months or years of loss. Find out more or please contact Shirley at griefcompanions@tcf.org.uk Or, if you are a bereaved grandparent who has lost a grandchild and you feel you would like to support other grandparents, it would also be good to hear from you. Could you be a volunteer offering empathy and support to others?
