Compassion and TCF News Summer 2024

38 tcf.org.uk Clare Flintoft conquered her fear of swimming in open water by taking on the challenge of the Great North Swim in memory of her boy, Adam ‘Stick’ Watson. Clare says she “smashed it today and I’m so pleased to raise money for you, I think I did my boy proud and had his siblings with me”. Clare raised an incredible £1175. Many congratulations. Congratulations on a Great North Swim Coffee morning raises £900 A fundraising coffee morning in Barton Seagrave, Northampton raised over £900. Adrian Keach writes… “We had a wonderful selection of home baked cakes, as well as beautiful handmade cards; many bring and buy items including a grand selection of jigsaws, a few plants and various craft items. Members of the TCF Kettering group, including several siblings, manned the kitchen and did an excellent job of providing drinks and biscuits as well as selling slices of delicious cakes”. This event was part of other fundraising events which are being held in the Kettering area culminating in a Summer Ball in July. TCF NEWS | FUNDRAISING ROUND-UP Supermarket support for TCF TCF was selected as one of the charities to benefit from the Tesco Stronger Starts programme in three regions. That means that TCF was one of three charities that customers at certain Tesco stores in London NW6 and NW10, as well as in Downham Market in Norfolk, can vote for when they make a purchase in-store and get given a blue token to put in the box of one of the three chosen charities. In Downham Market, TCF came top and will receive £1500; in North-West London we will receive £1000. Voting also took place at Tesco in Shrewsbury where TCF volunteers Judith and Marie recently had a TCF table. Judith and Marie had a great time and enjoyed chatting to people and telling them about their local TCF group and the work TCF does. Rachel, the Community Champion for Tesco in Shrewsbury, turned out to be a bereaved mum herself so they had lots in common. There is a possibility of the TCF group using Tesco’s community room for their meetings in the future. Safina Powell organised a charity football match in memory of her son Joe and to fundraise for TCF. Safina shared some lovely photos of the day and told us "The event went well and a lot of people are keen to make it an annual event. All players had J Powell 1 (Joe played in goal) on their shirts." The match raised over £1200 to support bereaved parents and siblings. A huge thank you to Safina for choosing The Compassionate Friends as her charity in memory of Joe - and thank you too to everyone who helped her organise the event, played and donated.
