Compassion Summer 2025

44 tcf.org.uk A Night to Celebrate On 3rd May friends and family of Katie held another fabulous "Night to Celebrate” at the Grand Atlantic Hotel in Weston Super Mare. The sparkling black-tie event with 150 guests was a fitting tribute to their glamorous daughter, sister and friend Katie. The evening included a three course meal, live music, raffle and auction and was brilliantly organised by Katie’s best friend Jade and hosted by Jade’s dad Neil. TCF trustee and volunteer Adelle gave a speech explaining the work of TCF and thanking everyone for their wonderful support. Here is what Maxine, Katie’s mum, told us about the event: “The ball in memory of Katie was such a special evening. What made it even more meaningful was hearing Adelle speak so openly and honestly about their experience following the loss of their child. It was incredibly emotional, but also heartfelt and comforting — a reminder that we are not alone in our grief. We are so grateful to Katie’s best friend, Jade, and her dad, Neil, who organised the event and worked so hard to create such a fantastic evening for friends and family. Their dedication and love shone through every part of the night, and we’re incredibly thankful for all they do to honour Katie and support The Compassionate Friends. Both Craig and I have found The Compassionate Friends to be exactly what we needed and continue to need. It is with other bereaved families that we feel most safe, held, and understood. The retreat we attended was another example of that — a truly supportive and gentle space, where we came away feeling honoured to have shared time with others who just get it. When we first lost Katie, our world was shattered. We didn’t know what to do, or how to even begin navigating our grief. Meeting Yvonne and other parents through TCF changed everything for us. Yvonne’s phone calls, the regular walks around Devon, and simply knowing we had people we could turn to made a huge difference. I can’t express my gratitude enough. Raising money for this wonderful charity is the very least we can do. The support we've received has been a lifeline, and we’re proud to give back in Katie’s memory.” The ‘Night to Celebrate’ raised £6500 for TCF. Jade also ran the Bristol Half in May 2024 for TCF raising £785. Jade said “TCF has been a massive support to Kate’s family, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them and what they do.” Jade will be running again for TCF in the Cardiff Half Marathon this October. Katie’s friend, Harrison, also ran the Dubai Half Marathon in 2023 raising £1170 for TCF. A huge thank you from all of us at TCF, we are so grateful.
