Compassion, Winter 2021

Winter 2021 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 21 A selection of poems When I think about volunteering When I think about how incredibly important volunteering is I think about how satisfying the work is and how it reduces my isolation. I feel it has helped to normalise my thoughts and feelings. I think I have gained an increase in my confidence and self- esteem. I feel that volunteering has had a positive impact on my physical and mental health and wellbeing. I think of all the new friendships that have developed and I feel a real sense of belonging to a caring and important community, That welcomes, encourages and values my skills. I feel like I give some of my time to help others Which allows the wonderful work to continue I have learnt so much and have a deeper understanding of people. I feel that my stress has reduced and I have developed new skills that I can bring into future work opportunities. When I think about volunteering, I find meaning and a sense of purpose as I honour the precious boys of whom I am bereaved. Lisa Gelbart
