Winter 2022 - Compassion | www.tcf.org.uk 31 Jessica Edwards in ever-loving memory of her darling son, James (This poem is included in the Compassionate Friends’ book ‘Forget me not Poems’) Where did he go? Those four words keep coming and coming Where did you go? You vanished Apparently, you are in my heart Is that where you are? No wonder my chest feels so heavy And my stomach too. Like a never-ending pregnancy How many cards will it take to believe it? How many people need to tell me before it sinks in? (Sinks in? In to what? As though my body has a bedrock, a core a foundation from which to live and this core, this pool of truths, this muscle of me, it’s got no idea you have gone If only it were that easy) And it's not just cards. I find gifts on the doorstep Kindness is everything now you learn that I have five new trees to be planted in the garden An apple, a pear, and a nectarine A monkey puzzle, and a dwarf eucalyptus Living things to look after, I suppose
