The Master invited me to stay on for drinks back in the Drawing Room as she felt lots of members would want to talk to me about TCF. And so it was, including the previous Master and the Secretary who is basically the CEO of the Worshipful Company. He told me that his staff talked about our Dad’s Day Retreat for weeks afterwards and that we were the nicest group they’d hosted, which was lovely to hear. I treated myself to a glass of red having resisted all the drinks being offered earlier to ensure a clear head. I left at 11.15, way past my bedtime, feeling elated. The friendly reception I received and the kindness shown towards me as a bereaved dad and volunteer was incredible”. Our thanks go to the Gauntlet Trust, the Armourers & Brasiers’ Company, and, of course, to Terry for agreeing to represent TCF at the event. “I felt cared for and listened to and not so alone” In September a support day in Northumberland was held for bereaved parents. We received some lovely feedback from parents attending this mini-retreat: “I felt exhausted that evening but the true benefit only came the next day and Monday afterward. I felt cared for and listened to and not so alone. All the people who organised and contributed are wonderful and I thank them very much for their love and kindness". “...gave me comfort that my experience was not unusual and also, hope, that eventually, after perhaps decades, but eventually nevertheless, living with this unspeakable pain will ease, if only a little. Sharing others’ insights and experience was so valuable and it was a privilege to be involved in the sharing of such unique and personal experiences”. “I got so much out of the day….it made me stop and focus on myself and think about my daughter, which I usually avoid doing. I feel that was a good outcome, it was very safe space to be in and that helped me open up a bit more”. Support day for bereaved parents Northumberland volunteers
