SIBBS Newsletter, Autumn 2020 | www.tcf.org.uk 5 UCL seeks participants into suicide bereavement study UCL is looking for participants into a study called ‘Understanding the Experience of Intrusive Thoughts and Images After Suicide Bereavement’, which it says will help to shape the future of suicide bereavement support in the UK. The study – in partnership with PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide - is particularly focused on understanding the experience of intrusive thoughts and images following suicide bereavement. For anyone who may feel up to it, use the link below to participate. Online support groups for bereaved siblings TCF online support groups for bereaved siblings aged 18 years plus are safe spaces to meet other siblings and find understanding and support for this all too often unrecognised loss. The group is facilitated by volunteers who are bereaved siblings themselves, and is a wonderful way to meet others, share your experience and find mutual support. You can keep an eye on upcoming online support group events run by TCF here . To register, please email events@tcf.org.uk . Numbers need to be limited in each Zoom session, and those who register interest will be put on a priority list for future sessions. We are currently going through the responses, which will give us a clearer idea on what kind of support bereaved siblings want and need in future. Your input is hugely appreciated as we work towards strengthening and improving the peer support we are so very proud to offer. Author Cathy Retzenbrink to share sibling loss story in online event Bag a spot on the sofa and join Cathy Retzenbrink in an online event scheduled for 13 October 2020. Cathy will relate her experience of grief for her brother Matty, sharing how she endured the unbearable pain and the ways she has found to make life meaningful. Funding boost for sibling support at TCF The Compassionate Friends has secured £2,000 of funding to help towards the provision of sibling support. The funding comes from a grant making trust that doesn’t wish for public acknowledgement. Our charity relies heavily on donations to provide support to bereaved families.
