Summer 2021 - TCF Newsletter | www.tcf.org.uk 10 Linda Paterson is the facilitator of the support group for parents bereaved by suicide in Glasgow and is a member of the national TCF team supporting parents bereaved by suicide in Scotland and Northern Ireland. In May, Linda and her team of friends and family took part in a 5k Walk of Hope in memory of her son Graham who sadly lost his life to suicide in 2003 aged 24. Linda commented “I am also walking in memory of everyone that has sadly lost their life in this way, to raise awareness of suicide prevention and to let everyone know they are not alone”. The Walk of Hope normally takes place at 4am and thousands walk together through Glasgow to raise awareness for suicide prevention, but this year it took place in many different areas due to COVID restrictions. Linda told us “it was an amazing day with so many emotions for all of us, but we are a great team all supporting each other. We are all so chuffed at the money raised for TCF and also being able to raise awareness for suicide prevention. It was a chilly day but at least it stayed dry -it’s just as well we are used to the cold Scottish weather!” A huge thank you to Linda, her volunteer team and everyone who donated, raising an amazing £2000 for The Compassionate Friends! Fundraising Round Up A warm thank you to all our fundraisers and donors - large and small Linda’s Walk of Hope Friends, colleagues and family will be walking the Thames Path in September in remembrance of Robert Treadgold and to raise funds for TCF. Robert was a member of our charity after the loss of his only son, Matthew, in 2016 and went on to volunteer with TCF supporting parents through our weekend retreats. He made a huge impact in his short time with TCF and it was with deep sadness that we learnt of Robert’s death in summer 2020. He is so hugely missed within our charity, as both a volunteer and a friend.
