TCF News Spring 2022
Spring 2022 - TCF Newsletter | www.tcf.org.uk 10 A Smile for Faye Late last year bereaved mum, Carolyn, contacted us and said she’d like to raise money in memory of her daughter Faye’s 21st birthday which was on 24 December 2021. Faye was born with Williams Syndrome and, because of that, she had the most wide, beautiful smile. Faye died unexpectedly in 2004 of pneumococcal meningitis aged just three years old. Her mum, Carolyn, created a beautiful campaign called A Smile for Faye which saw smiles contributed on social media – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - from family, friends and a few celebrities into the bargain. She set up a memory fund page on the TCF website here tcf.org.uk/inmemory/smileforfaye and raised an astonishing £1319 plus gift aid which will help us to support bereaved parents and siblings in 2022. Thank you so much, Carolyn. Energy firm Box Power doubles donation! Gill and Neil Hardy – both volunteers with TCF - were thrilled to receive an invitation to Bolton business energy consultancy Box Power’s charity lunch last year to be presented with a £5000 donation for TCF. Imagine their surprise and delight on the day when they were told that all donations were to be doubled – meaning that TCF received an incredible £10,000! Box Power was founded by Corin and Tricia Dalby in 2014, inspired by their son who has autism, with the original intention of supporting autism charities. They’re a non-profit organisation, donating all of their profits from their business back to charity. As their philanthropic company grew, they pledged to donate a staggering £1 million to charities working in the North West of England, with The Compassionate Friends being one of the lucky charities they chose to support. Thank you to Stephen Armstrong, our Head of Fundraising, who originally made the contact with Box Power, and to Gill and Neil Hardy who collected this amazing donation. Gill and Neil told the audience of charities and company employees at the lunch more about the vital work of TCF supporting bereaved parents and their families and their personal connections to our charity.
