TCF News Spring 2022
Spring 2022 - TCF Newsletter | www.tcf.org.uk 9 Planet Ice Gillingham ice rink gave Ali and Dan the permission to hold the memorial game on the 21 August 2021. We would like to give our thanks to the Planet Ice management and staff team who made this possible. We would like to thank Ali, Dan and everyone that brought the game to life; and to everyone that attended and made it a truly memorable occasion. We had 40 of Danny’s teammates from over many years and good friends suit up - not forgetting Uncle Andy, who scored the final goal with 10 seconds on the clock in front of 1000 people. A true Hollywood moment. More recently, on the 15 January 2022, Danny’s good friend Justine arranged a collection and together with the generosity of Planet Ice were able to purchase a memorial bench for Danny. Justine invited us to the rink to unveil the bench and organised a drink for everyone who attended. Danny’s bench will be placed next to the Invicta Mustangs changing rooms on the home side of the rink. We have now had the first anniversary of losing our son. As bereaved parents every day can be different, but the kindness we have been shown and support we have received from family and friends helps give us strength. Understanding that our son meant so much and gave so much to everyone, we know his memory will live on with those special to him. Mark & Rachel Terry Golf day raises £6,500 to support bereaved parents At the end of July last year, Richard Deeks, the Captain of the Men’s Section at Chesfield Downs Golf Club in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, held the Captain’s annual Charity Day with the full support and help of Raquel Xavier, the Events Manager at the club. In 2021, the benefiting charity was The Compassionate Friends. The day included a team golf competition, an auction and a raffle, and 104 people took part. The event raised and amazing £6,500 towards the work of TCF. Ken Barclay, trustee of the charity, accepted the cheque from Richard and other members on Saturday 15 January 2022. Richard Deeks learned about the work of The Compassionate Friends when he met a bereaved father who had benefited from the support of our charity. Ken Barclay, TCF trustee and bereaved parent, accepting the cheque, said, ‘The support of Richard and the Chesfield Downs Golf Club and its members is truly valued and greatly appreciated. A donation of this size can go a long way in our work supporting bereaved parents.’ Trustee of The Compassionate Friends, Ken Barclay (third from right) and wife Wendy accepting the cheque from Richard Deeks (second left).
