Online helpline webchat

Our online chat service is taking a break until later in 2021. More details once we are back up and running. Thank you for your patience.

To talk with one of our trained, bereaved parent volunteers call our Helpline on 0345 123 2304 (10 am - 4 pm, 7-10 pm every day).

This service will, we hope, resume in 2021.

Use this service to talk with one of our Helpline volunteer team to find support, understanding and information.

This is a confidential service and The Compassionate Friends will not record individual webchats.

All our volunteers are bereaved parents themselves and are there to:

  • Listen and care when you need someone to talk to
  • Offer emotional support and an opportunity to talk through your feelings
  • Put you in touch, where possible, with your nearest local or group support or other peer to peer support
  • Supply supportive leaflets and newsletters by email or post
  • Signpost you to other services and useful sources of information

When is the Helpline online chat available?

Just click the blue banner at the foot of the page to start to chat to one of our volunteers.

We are sorry but we cannot respond to any messages sent out of those hours but you can call our National Helpline on 0345 123 2304 10 am – 4 pm or 7 -10 pm every day of the week (including weekends) or you can email us on helpine@tcf.org.uk.

How to use our online chat

You can talk to one of our Helpline volunteer team via our online chat by clicking the blue banner at the foot of the page of our website. (Please note that it might be hiding under the cookie message at the foot of the page, so please click that away and you should be able to see it).

You can chat from your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Our online chat is designed to help you express and manage your feelings around your grief when you feel like you need some support and understanding from another bereaved parent.

If you need to speak to someone urgently, please contact a crisis organisation such as the Samaritans who offer a 24 hour emotional support service : on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org.

In an emergency, please contact the emergency services on 999.
