My Champion, Me - with Dr Sangeeta Mahajan

16 February 2021, 19.00 – 20.15

ONLINE via Zoom

The Compassionate Friends are delighted to welcome back Dr Sangeeta Majahan for another of our helpful series of online events where bereaved parents and siblings offer their personal perspectives on loss and grief. Join us this time as Sangeeta shares with us her reflections around the theme of self-compassion in a session entitled My Champion, Me.

Sangeeta writes...

"In our intellect-driven world harsh judgements arise from within us against ourselves, even when we are hurting deeply. This happens as a default reaction without our conscious participation. This conversation is about recognising and calling out these inbuilt destructive tendencies and transforming them into a genuine friendship with ourselves. It will give us tools to develop a loving, connected presence in good and bad times. It will help us examine our internal dialogues and reframe them with self-compassion so that they serve and empower us".

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER

Dr Sangeeta Mahajan is mother to Saagar, a gorgeous young man who loved playing the drums, speaking French, playing cricket, cackling like a child and making people laugh. He was a gentle soul with a heart of gold. Sadly, after a brief but severe illness, he died by suicide six years ago. He was 20.

Sangeeta is a Mental Health activist, advocate and educator. She is a Trustee of the national charity for prevention of young suicide, PAPYRUS. She dreams of a world where everyone lives with hope. Aside from individually supporting parents and young people, she has been a keynote speaker at various national and international conferences. She also works as a Consultant Anaesthetist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London.

Sangeeta has spoken at retreats and weekend events run by The Compassionate Friends. Her words are always honest, moving, inspiring, helpful and hopeful for anyone who has suffered deep loss. Her online talk - Finding Meaning After Loss - was the first online event hosted by The Compassionate Friends in August last year.
