In her wonderful book, Upright with Knickers On: Surviving the Death of a Child, Gina Claye, bereaved mum of two children and Compassionate Friends trustee and volunteer, shares with us through prose and verse how she has survived her losses. The book also provides an opportunity for other bereaved parents and siblings to share the variety of ways in which they have approached their grief and learned to survive the loss of their beloved child or sibling and particularly, how they have found meaning, purpose and hope again.
We now warmly welcome you all to attend an online event on Monday 15 March at 7pm where several contributors have kindly agreed to verbally share with us what they wrote for the book. Each contributor will then briefly reflect on how they feel now about what they wrote then and whether their grief has stayed the same or has changed. At the event, we want to hear from you too - what has helped you to get through, to survive and to go on in a positive, meaningful way.
In the foreword to the book, Gina Claye writes..."This book, written with contributions from bereaved parents and siblings describes the traumatic grief, anger, guilt and despair we all experience when our child or sibling dies. It is important for us to know that we are not alone in feeling that we're going mad or that we want to go to sleep and never wake up. It also helps enormously to realise that these feelings will eventually pass
At first, it can be tremendously difficult to find a reason to get up and face the day...Those of us further on in our grief have written about what helps us get up in the morning and face the day ahead. The book describes how, by allowing ourselves to grieve, we eventually learn to live again with hope and meaning in our lives, always carrying our loved ones with us".
We very much hope to see you at this event which is part of our series of talks and other events to support parents, siblings and grandparents to feel less alone with their loss and grief.
