David is a bereaved father and volunteer for TCF. He will be leading this 6 mile walk on Saturday 2 April, from 10.30 am, in a picturesque part of Hertfordshire especially for bereaved parents and siblings. Here, David offers you some more information and what to expect as you walk together.
Hi everyone
I am David and I will be leading this walk in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Aldbury is one of the most picturesque villages in Hertfordshire with timber framed cottages, and a historic inn clustered around the village duck pond. This quintessential English village has been used as a setting for popular television programmes including several episodes of Midsummer Murders.
We will be walking on the ridgeway path to Pitstone Hill and returning through Ashridge forest via the Bridgewater monument. This is a beautiful area to walk and will offer fantastic views across the Chilterns and we will see some iron age archaeology on the way.
The walk is 6 miles long and please note does involve several periods of hill climbing so I would rank this as a moderate walk. The area is predominantly chalk and drains well but there may be some areas of muddy or uneven ground. I anticipate 3 hours to complete the walk including time for lunch.
The walk begins and finishes in the village of Aldbury, Hertfordshire and the meeting point at 10.30 am is:
Musette Cafe, Church Farm, Station Rd, Aldbury, Tring HP23 5RS
If you have the app What 3 Words the meeting location is ///above.suspends.shoving
The cafe is at the back of Church Farm on Station Road approx 200 yards from the St John the Baptist Church.
There is a car park at the recreation ground, 51 Stocks Rd, Aldbury, Tring HP23 5RU, What 3 Words ///sunbeam.thickens.obliging which is a 5 minute walk from the Musette Cafe. Parking is also allowed in the village near the Greyhound pub and pond but is limited. No car parking space is available at the Musette Cafe.
The nearest train station is Tring which is 1 mile away from Aldbury and there is a path from Tring station to Aldbury.
Coffee, snacks and toilets are available at the Musette Cafe at the beginning and end. During the walk the only other toilet we will come across is at the Bridgewater monument which is near the end of the walk.
You will need to bring your own lunch/snacks and water and we will stop along the way.
Hope very much to see you on the 2nd.
David
Once you are booked, further details will be sent to you in the week before the walk.
