“The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path I walk in peace”. Nhat Hahn
Bereaved dad, Terry, writes...
Walking in the countryside, often on my own or with my dog, has been an invaluable part of my coping with losing James. I find being close to nature, marvelling at it’s beauty, with only the sound of birds singing, clears the mind, and gives me the clarity to think deeply about James and life in general. I would love to share this experience, even enhance it, with other bereaved parents and siblings.
This is a walk that will be slightly different from the regular walks in the TCF programme.
An important element of TCF walks is, of course, sharing and talking to one another. Whilst there will still be plenty of time for this when we meet, at lunch and then at the finish, on this walk we will be mostly walking in silence. As with sitting meditation, we will be focusing on ourselves and engaging with our surroundings to hopefully feel the full benefit of being in nature and in our own peace.
I really hope this will work for everyone as well as it does for me. At the very least, we will have a fantastic walk in magnificent Hertfordshire countryside; walking through deep woods and wide open fields with big skies and sweeping views to enhance our experience.
Our lunch stop will be in the village of Datchworth where there are two pubs, an artisan coffee shop or, for those wishing to bring their own food, or get a take away, benches around the village green.
The walk is 7.5 miles long with several inclines so I’ve rated it as Moderate compared to the London walks which are rated as Easy.
We will meet at Welwyn North station which is only a 33 minute trip from London Kings Cross.
For those travelling from Kings Cross, there is a train that leaves at 10.58 a.m. arriving at Welwyn North at 11.31a.m.
We will meet in the car park by the exit from the platform. If the train from Kings Cross is delayed we will wait. It’s only a small station so you won’t have a problem finding me.
Welwyn North can also be reached from Cambridge in 50 minutes. A train leaves Cambridge at 10.27 a.m. arriving at Welwyn North at 11.17 a.m. Again, if the train is late, we will wait.
(Times are correct at time of writing but please check before you travel to ensure that you arrive on time)
If you are coming by any other means, we aim to meet at 11.30 am and plan to leave at 11.40 am.
I look forward to seeing you and sharing this meditation walk with you.
