Back to Balance Writing Workshop…28 November 2022 FULLY BOOKED

28 November 2022, 10.00 – 12.00

ONLINE via Zoom

Working with the theme of self-compassion, we will explore how words can bring us home to ourselves and to a place of balance as we support others in their journey through grief.

These online stand-alone sessions, planned as a nurturing space for volunteers, welcome everyone - no experience of creative or personal writing is needed. In a relaxed, small-group setting, with chances to write and to share their words, volunteers will be guided through some simple openings into creative and reflective writing, using poems, images and the natural world as inspiration.

The healing potential of writing is becoming increasingly recognised - together we will touch on some of the possibilities this wonderful tool can offer for greater self-awareness, perspective and joy. We will be writing in the spirit of curiosity with a focus on ‘process not product.’ The intention for these sessions is to offer a gentle and supportive space for self-reflection, connection and creativity.

Everyone’s journey is a life long journey of self-discovery and self-awareness and that in being there so much for others, it is so important to access ways to support ourselves and particularly through avenues that we may not have considered before. We would warmly encourage those who have never tried this form of self-help to give it a go.

*This workshop develops themes from last year’s workshops, so may be particularly suitable for volunteers who participated in April/May 2021, however it is suitable for all volunteers even if you haven't attended before.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER

Samantha Gray started life as a teacher, later gaining credentials with the ‘International Federation of Biblio/Poetry Therapy’ to work in the field of poetry therapy – the interactive use of literature to promote healing.

In 2011, after the loss of her son, she wrote an article about the ways in which writing can support us through the bereavement process (Gray, S, 2011, Routledge).

Sam finds comfort, inspiration and clarity in words – and loves working with others as they do the same.
