Starting at Lingholm Estate Car Park, Keswick

Bereaved parent, Sheila, will be leading her final walk this year for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents on Saturday 8 October. Meeting at 9.45 am for a 10 am start. Here, Sheila tells you a little more about this beautiful walk...

Hi! I am Sheila and am looking forward to leading this walk with my faithful spaniel cross, Rosie. We invite bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us, and well-behaved dogs are also welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.

We will start walking from the Lingholm Estate near Keswick. After walking through Brandelhow Woods and along the lake shore we will have a short stop then walk up a steep rocky path which will take us to Catbells Terrace where we will get magnificent views over Derwentwater. We will walk along the relatively flat terrace before retracing our steps back to the Lingholm Estate where we can visit the café for some lunch. Beatrix Potter used to spend holidays on the estate and you will see the walled garden which you may recognise from her Peter Rabbit books.

The walk is approximately 5 miles in total and is mostly on flat sometimes rocky paths but there is a steep, rocky section to and from Catbells Terrace. At a steady pace, with a short break mid-way, it should take around 3 hours.

Please remember this is a rural walk so you should have a reasonable level of fitness, wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs.

We will meet at the Lingholm estate car park (CA12 5TZ) from 9.45 and will start walking at 10:00. Please note the car park is pay and display at a cost of £10 for the day but if you take the ticket into the café at the end £4 will be deducted from your bill. It is advisable to bring cash as the card option is not always available.

If you haven’t walked with us before, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining on your own. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of other bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings.
