Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting
Gather together online via Zoom from 6.30 pm for a 6.40 pm start.
Candles lit at 7 pm on Sunday 11 December.
The Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting gives bereaved families everywhere the opportunity for a time of quiet reflection and to remember their children, siblings and grandchildren.
...so that their light may always shine...
This year, once again, we warmly invite you to join us in a special online event where we will share some words and light candles together to honour and remember all our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and grandchildren who left too soon.
This event is part of the Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting which was begun in 1997 and continues every year on the 2nd Sunday in December. As candles are lit on 11 December at 7 pm local time all over the world, hundreds of thousands of people commemorate and honour the memory of all children gone too soon. A truly international event, The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held, and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes, as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died and will never be forgotten.
Please note this event is for bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents only. Thanks for your understanding.
Holding your candle safely - make a Memory Candle Jar
Some of you may know that at our retreats and gatherings we often make candle jars to take a tealight in memory of our child, sibling or grandchild. We usually light these during our time together. If you'd like to make a candle jar to bring along to the candle lighting on 11 December, helpful guidance and some instructions here.
Or perhaps you made a holder at one of our retreats - if so please bring it along.
However you decide to bring your own candle to this online event, please do ensure it is held safely in a container or holder. Thank you.
We look forward very much to seeing you there and sharing this special time of remembrance with you.
2022 BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE (from 1 December 2022)
Throughout December, and especially on the second Sunday of the month during the Worldwide Candle Lighting, you can post a message of remembrance for your son or daughter, brother or sister, or grandchild. You can also include a photograph with your message if you wish.
"...So their light may always shine..."
Post your photo and remembrance message here (from 1st December 2022)
(If you don't upload a photograph a picture of a candle will accompany your message).
