21 January 2023, 10.30 – 14.00

Bereaved mum, Marcia, will be leading a Compassionate Friends walk for bereaved parents, siblings (18 years+) and grandparents at the end of January 2023. The walk will be approximately 5 miles in length. If you haven’t walked with us before, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining on your own. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of other bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents. Marcia tells you more below...

My name is Marcia and I’m a bereaved mother living in Formby. I would like to invite you to join me on a walk along my beautiful coastline which is situated between Liverpool and Southport.

I led a walk in September 2022 in this area which I really enjoyed, and I felt that everyone who joined us also enjoyed the walk. It was lovely to talk to and engage with the other bereaved parents, adult siblings and grandparents who came with us.

This walk will be similar, but we will go north instead of south. The first part will be through pinewoods and then we will head for the dunes and the beach. As before, the route can be altered if it’s windy and high tides make beach walking difficult. I have walked this area for over 50 years so know it well! The paths are mostly good and well-trodden so walking shoes are adequate. Please bring a packed lunch as there is nowhere to eat en-route. But there are toilets!

Meeting Place - National Trust Car Park at Lifeboat Road (L37 2EB). The charge for the car park is £7.50 (free to National Trust members). There is roadside parking nearby if preferred and you can walk down and meet us in the Car Park. We meet by the toilets and I will carry a card with TCF on it.

After the walk, we could drive the mile or so to Formby Village where there is free parking and plenty of opportunities for refreshments.

I look forward to welcoming other bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings and walking with them in this lovely area.

January can be a bleak month for bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings as we face another year without our lovely child, grandchild, brother or sister. Hopefully a walk will be helpful. This area is noted for its mild climate so good for a winter walk.
