Mid-Devon Walk

22 April 2023, 11.00

Bereaved parents and TCF volunteers, Yvonne and Teresa, are leading the next TCF walk in the South West. They are offering a circular walk from Halberton near Tiverton, along the Great Western canal and country lanes and villages of Mid Devon on Saturday April 22nd at 11am. Please click on the booking link to register.

The walk starts from a cafe in Halberton, EX16 where there is parking available and a farm shop nearby which will be open.

For those travelling by train, there will be a collection by car(s) from Tiverton Parkway railway station which is 2 miles away from Halberton, at 10.45am. Trains from both north (Taunton) and south (Exeter) directions arrive between 10.25 and 10.40am.

The walk is 5 miles long with gentle inclines only apart from a short walk uphill to a picnic spot with lovely views for lunch halfway. It begins by a path onto the canal towpath which is followed south along a pretty stretch of waterside. It then takes quiet lanes along the valley towards Ash Thomas village, with lunch on the hillside above. Afterwards, paths through the interesting little village lead back to quiet lanes and into Halberton Lower Town, as the older part of the village is known. Finally we will arrive back at the original meeting point in Halberton where we can relax over refreshments indoors or outside depending on the weather.

There will be lifts organised back to Tiverton Parkway railway station. For anyone feeling more energetic it is possible to walk or cycle between Tiverton Parkway and our start/finish point along a cycle route and the canal towpath.

Please bring drinks and lunch or purchase from the shop beforehand, as well as something waterproof for sitting on for our picnic as there is no seating. Also bear in mind that the weather is unpredictable in April so do bring waterproof footwear and clothing along with some warm layers just in case.

If you would like a lift from the railway station please indicate this when registering for the walk.

Please click on the booking link to register. We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk with the meeting point details in Halberton and any last minute information you may need. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you registered for the walk and haven't received details).

We welcome all bereaved parents, grandparents and bereaved siblings (18 years or over). If you have not walked with us before do not feel daunted or apprehensive about joining us. We are a friendly supportive community of others similarly bereaved and we understand.

Please register your interest/book for this walk using the 'Book for this event' button below.

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
