Lanthwaite Wood, Loweswater, Cumbria
Bereaved parent and TCF volunteer, Sheila, is leading her next walk for bereaved parents and siblings (18 years+) on Saturday 13 May 2023, starting a little earlier than usual at 9.15 am. Here she tells you a little more about the walk she has planned...
Hi! I am Sheila and am looking forward to leading this walk through the stunning Rannerdale Valley with my faithful spaniel cross, Rosie. We invite bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us, and well-behaved dogs are also welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.
We will walk through Lanthwaite Wood to the shores of Crummock Water and follow the lakeshore path to Cinderdale Common where we will walk up to the Rannerdale Valley where the bluebells should be in full bloom on the open fellside. While enjoying the beautiful sights and aromas we can stop for a “brew with a view” before retracing our steps. If you would like to join us for a pub lunch/drink afterwards in Loweswater it is just a short drive away.
It’s approximately 5 miles in total and at a steady pace with a short break it should take around 3 hours to complete the walk. The route is mostly flat with good sometimes rocky footpaths and grassy paths which can be quite muddy. There are also a couple of streams to cross. Please remember it is a rural walk so you should have a reasonable level of fitness, wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs.
As the Rannerdale bluebells are popular and there is limited parking I would suggest we meet a little earlier than usual at 9am, with a view to start walking at 9.15. We will meet at Lanthwaite Wood (exact details will be sent you after you book). There is a pay and display car park unless you are a National Trust member. Please note there are no public toilets during the walk but if you join us for lunch, facilities will be available at the pub.
Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
For more details and to register, please click on the, 'book for this event' link. Once you register, we will be in contact with you by email approximately a week prior to the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. If you would like meeting point details prior to this email, please contact us at info@tcf.org.uk
