Braithwaite

Bereaved parent and TCF volunteer, Sheila, is leading her next walk for bereaved parents and siblings (18 years+) on Saturday 17 June 2023, meeting at 9.45 am to start walking at 10 am. Here she tells you a little more about the walk she has planned...

Hi! I am Sheila and am looking forward to leading this walk from the pretty village of Braithwaite to Force Crag Mine at the head of the Coledale Valley with my faithful spaniel cross, Rosie. We invite bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us, and well-behaved dogs are also welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.

After an initial short but steep climb on the road from the village we will pick up the gravel path which will take us along the side of the majestic Grisedale Pike and to the now unused Force Crag Mine. The stunning path is surrounded by fells. Once we reach the mine we will stop for our “brew with a view” before returning to Braithwaite along the same track. Back in the village please feel free to join us for some lunch at the Coledale Inn which has a lovely beer garden if the weather is good.

It’s approximately 6 miles in total and at a steady pace with a short break it should take around 3 hours to complete the walk. As previously advised, there is a short steep section on the road at the start followed by a good mostly flat gravel path. Please remember it is a rural walk so you should have a reasonable level of fitness, wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs.

We will meet in Braithwaite near parking (exact details of the meeting place will be emailed to you from info@tcf.org.uk once you have booked and approximately a week before the walk date - see below).

Please note there are no public toilets during the walk but if you join us for lunch, facilities will be available at the pub.

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

For more details and to register, please click on the, 'book for this event' link. Once you register, we will be in contact with you by email approximately a week prior to the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. If you would like meeting point details prior to this email, please contact us at info@tcf.org.uk
