Walk in Totnes, Devon, Devon

Saturday 13th January 2024

Bereaved parent and volunteer Yvonne is leading our next TCF walk in the Southwest in Totnes, Devon.

This would be a great start to the New Year and a great opportunity to get outside and get some fresh air and exercise.

This is a 4.7ml walk and we shall be meeting at 11am for a prompt 11.15 am start. We will follow the river downstream and after leaving the built-up area we will follow the cycle path uphill, giving us good views over the river and reed beds, and towards the far hills.

If the weather is appropriate, we will have our packed lunches at a lovely viewpoint, before turning back beside the river and returning to the town, along the combined John Musgrave Heritage and Dart Valley Trails. This path passes through fields, woodland and beside the reed beds. If needed, we can find a more sheltered picnic spot there.

The walk has a total ascent of 488ft. The small hill on the cycle path rises by 187ft over 0.7of a mile. We will take this at a gentle pace. The path beside the river consists of field and woodland paths and the trails are rough underfoot and can be wet. There are 3 stiles and some wooden steps going down.

The walk will not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. Appropriate footwear is needed for the rough paths.

After the walk, I’ve planned for us to go to a café near the station for approximately 2.30pm, where we can get some welcome refreshments. This will also be an opportunity for other bereaved parents, siblings over 18, and grandparents who do not wish to join the walk, to join for refreshments and an opportunity to meet others similarly bereaved. All are welcome.

Well controlled dogs are welcome and in some parts of the walk, will need to be on a lead.

We are sorry but if your loss is within the last 3-4 months, we think it would be best to wait a little longer before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.

We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.

We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details)

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

To register for the walk, or to express an interest in meeting in the café after the walk, please click ’book for this event’.
