Classic Cockermouth

9 March 2024, 09.45

Cockermouth

TCF volunteer and walks facilitator, Sheila, is leading her first walk of 2024 on 9 March. Here she writes this warm invitation to you:

My little dog Rosie and I would like to invite bereaved, parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us for a walk in and around our adopted Lakeland home, the beautiful Georgian market town of Cockermouth. It will be a chance to chat with others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in lovely surroundings.

We will meet in the outskirts of the town and walk down a winding country lane where we will pick up a track across fields, through Harris Park, along the banks of the River Cocker and into the pretty town centre. We can then stop for a well-earned refreshment and toilet break in one of the town’s little cafes before walking back to where we started. Please note this route is subject to change as there can be cows in one of the fields and if they are blocking the way we will retrace our steps and enter the town by another route. However I think it will be too early in the season for them to be in this field.

This is an easy walk covering a distance of around 5 miles and, including a coffee break, should take approximately 3 hours. There are three stiles and the track can become quite muddy so sturdy footwear, waterproofs and a reasonable level of fitness are recommended.

Well-behaved dogs are very welcome.

We will meet from 9.45 so we can start walking at 10 sharp in a side street where you can park for free.

***

We are sorry but if your loss is within the last 3-4 months, we think it would be best to wait a little longer before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you to a future walk.

We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.

We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details)

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

To register for the walk, please click ’book for this event’.
