South West Walk - Wellington, Somerset
9 March 2024, 11.00
UNFORTUNATELY THIS WALK IS CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE OR DISAPPOINTMENT CAUSED. WE HOPE TO BE ABLE TO OFFER THE WALK LATER IN THE SPRING OR SUMMER.
Bereaved parent and volunteer, Yvonne is leading our next TCF walk in the South West around Wellington, exploring this lovely and interesting area of the Somerset countryside.
This is a gently undulating walk, passing through farmland ,and following country tracks. The walk follows the now dried out course of the old Grand Western Canal to the village of Holywell Lake, ad then onto the village of Westford, returning along the route of the Westford Stream. This is all now lovely country side but the waterways were developed over 200 years ago, to provide a means of transport, and separately as a means of powering the now redundant mills.
This is a 5 mile gently undulating walk, with a total ascent of 400ft. The uphill parts will be taken at a leisurely pace.
We will stop for an early packed lunch in a small area of beech woodland.
Please note that some of the walk could be rough and wet and muddy underfoot, so appropriate sturdy footwear is needed.
Well behaved dogs are welcome. They will have to be kept on leads on the farmland some of which may contain livestock.
After the walk there will be the opportunity to go to a nearby café, a very short drive away, for some welcome refreshments.
There is free parking and toilets at the meeting place, and also at the tea stop.
For those who come by train, there will be the possibility of a lift from Taunton or Tiverton Parkway stations. If you would like a lift from the station please indicate this and which station.

We are sorry but if your loss is within the last 3-4 months, we think it would be best to wait a little longer before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.
We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.
If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.
We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details)
Please note this walk is only for those who are bereaved parents, grandparents or siblings (aged 18 years+). If you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
Please also note that this is group walk and we therefore ask you to stay with the group while walking for the purpose of supporting each other and so that our volunteer walk facilitators know you are safe. Thank you.
