Tiverton, Devon Walk

20 April 2024, 11.00

Please note that this walk is unfortunately CANCELLED. We hope to offer the walk later in the year.

TCF volunteer and bereaved parent, Yvonne, is leading the next walk in South West England in the Grand Western Canal Country Park and local Nature Reserve at Tiverton in Devon. Yvonne welcomes any bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings (over 18 years old).

The walk goes to the Tiverton Canal Centre, following the disused railway line walk, and returns to the starting point beside the Grand Western Canal.

We shall stop for our packed lunches near the Canal Centre at the historic Canal Basin.

As well our own food, there will be the opportunity to visit the adjacent thatched tea rooms and garden or the floating café. We may even see the horse drawn barge being towed along the canal by the heavy horses.

After the walk, we can go to a nearby café for some welcome refreshments before we head home.

This is a flat, leisurely walk. However in places it may be muddy and rough underfoot and suitable sturdy footwear will be needed. The total distance is 5.75 miles.

Well-controlled dogs are welcome. Please note they must not disturb the waterbirds, especially as they will be nesting. They must be on leads at the Canal Basin.

Please also note that we may have to pass barges being towed by a horse who are also walking on the tow path.

The walk starting place has free parking. It is 10 minutes drive from Tiverton Parkway railway station. There will be the opportunity for a lift from the station if required.  Please indicate if you would like a lift from Tiverton station when registering for this walk.

***

We are sorry but if your loss is within the last 3-4 months, we think it would be best to wait a little longer before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.

We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.

We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details)

Please note this walk is only for those who are bereaved parents, grandparents or siblings (aged 18 years+). If you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

Please also note that this is group walk and we therefore ask you to stay with the group while walking for the purpose of supporting each other and so that our volunteer walk facilitators know you are safe. Thank you.
