Welshpool and Powis Castle Walk

27 April 2024, 10.15 – 15.00

Welshpool

Bereaved parents and volunteers David and Fiona warmly invite you to join them for a walk from Welshpool on Saturday 27 April at 10.15 for a 10.30 am start. Walking in the lovely Welsh countryside provides the background activity, but the focus is on bringing people together for mutual support and encouragement.

The first section of the route follows the Montgomery Canal towpath, then a short climb across pasture land with a view across the Severn valley, reaching the spectacular Powis Castle (NT) We then head back into Welshpool to reach the car park by about 15:00. The walk is about 5 miles (total walking time 2.5 - 3 hours) with an hour’s break at about noon where we plan to stop for coffee and/or lunch at Powis Castle NT café (access to café is free to non-members). It can be busy and service could be slow. We will probably sit at the picnic benches so if you prefer to bring a packed lunch we will still be together.

Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. There are several stiles and a short flight of steps but we shall be walking at a leisurely pace.

We welcome all bereaved parents, grandparents and bereaved siblings (18 years or over) and well behaved dogs (which may need to be on leads on certain sections of the walk). We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

***

Please note that our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause.

We are sorry but if your loss is within the last 3-4 months, we think it would be best to wait a little longer before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.

We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.

* We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details)

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

As this is a supportive walk, we ask that we stay together as a group for the duration the walk. Thankyou.
