Belfast Walk
11 May 2024, 10.15
River Lagan Towpath, Belfast
There are still spaces on this walk. If you would like to come and would like more details please email info@tcf.org.uk Thank you.
Bereaved parents and volunteers, Owen and Mary, warmly invite you to their first TCF walk along the River Lagan Towpath in Belfast on Saturday 11 May, meeting at 10.15 am for a 10.30 am start.
We welcome all bereaved parents, grandparents and bereaved siblings (18 years or over). We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, also welcoming those who are new to our walks.
The walk is along the historic towpath beside the River Lagan as it passes through wooded and parkland areas of the Lagan Valley Regional Park. Refreshments and toilets are available if we stop at the Lock Keepers Cottage.
This will be a leisurely walk of approximately 4 miles, taking around 2 hours. The terrain is a flat path with one short hill at the finish. Please wear appropriate footwear for a potentially muddy path and carry suitable rainwear. Toilets and refreshments are available at the start and at a café en-route.
There is ample free car parking at the start. Translink bus no. 8a and 8b from Belfast City centre stops about 10 mins walk from the walking start point **
Dogs are welcome on leads.
Please note that we will walk beside the river along the tow path and across two river footbridges. The walking path is also shared with runners and cyclists.

Please note that our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause.
We are sorry but if your loss is within the last 3-4 months, we think it would be best to wait a little longer before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.
We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.
If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.
** We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details)
Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
As this is a supportive walk, we ask that we stay together as a group for the duration the walk. Thankyou.
