BOOK FOR THIS WALK
Bereaved parents Barbara and Phil invite bereaved parents, adult siblings and grandparents to join them on their first walk in Lincolnshire for Compassionate Friends. This walk will through the beautiful Deer Park at Burghley House on Saturday 22 June, meeting at 10.45 am for a 11 am start.
The walk is around 3 miles and will be walked at a leisurely pace suitable for most. We plan to stop half way at the Bull and Swan in Stamford for refreshments where there is a large outdoor area which is under cover. There is also a dog-friendly coffee shop and cafe at Burghley House where we have the option to enjoy lunch or refreshments at the end of the walk.
The walk is mainly along gravel paths with some areas of grass and some gradual inclines in parts. Comfortable and suitable walking shoes are recommended as well as a waterproof jacket if rain is forecast. Dogs are permitted in the Park on a lead (but dog s are not allowed in the House or formal gardens - see below). There are toilets at Burghley House and also at the halfway stop.
Burghley House is an Elizabethan mansion once owned by Lord Burghley, chief advisor to Queen Elizabeth 1. The Park was designed by Capability Brown and has been featured as a location for the ‘Pride and Predjudice’ film and more recently ‘The Crown’. The house and formal gardens can be visited separately on payment of an entrance fee. Anyone with Historic Houses membership can gain free entry, though please note that dogs aren’t allowed in the house or gardens.
There is a large free car park at Burghley House. There is a train station at Stamford. More travel details can be found here.
We will email the exact meeting point at Burghley Park closer to the time. **
We welcome all bereaved parents, grandparents and bereaved siblings (18 years or over). We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to walking with other bereaved individuals.
We hope very much that you will join us.
***
We are sorry but if you are less than 3 months bereaved, we ask that you wait until you are 3 months or more bereaved before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.
We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.
If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.
**We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from Barbara and Philip €¯so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details).
Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be¯unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
Please note that individuals join a TCF walk at their own risk.
