Tiverton Devon Walk

Tiverton Devon Walk

10 August 2024, 11.00

BOOKING FOR THIS WALK IS NOW CLOSED. If you would like to participate in this walk please would you email info@tcf.org.uk before 4 pm on Friday 9 August and we will send you the joining details and exact meeting place. Thank you.

Compassionate Friends volunteer and bereaved parent Yvonne, is leading the next walk in the Grand Western Canal Country Park and local Nature Reserve in Tiverton, Devon on Saturday 10 August, at 11 am. All bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings (over 18) are warmly welcome.

The walk of approximately 5.75 miles goes to the Tiverton Canal Centre, following the disused Railway Line Walk, and returns to the starting point beside the Grand Western Canal. The walk passes through the glorious Devon countryside, and includes a delightful wooded area, with beautiful mature trees, filled with birdsong.

This is a flat, leisurely walk. However in places it may be muddy and rough underfoot and so suitable sturdy footwear will be needed.

We shall stop for our packed lunches near the Canal Centre at the historic canal basin. As well our own food, there will be the opportunity to visit the adjacent thatched tea rooms and garden or the floating café. We may even see the horse drawn barge, being towed along the canal by the Heavy Horses.

After the walk, we can also go to a nearby cafe, for welcome refreshments before we head home.

Well controlled dogs are welcome. They must not disturb the waterbirds on the canal and they must be on leads at the Canal Basin. Please also note, that we may have to pass barges being towed by a horse also walking on the tow path.

The walk start place** has free parking. It is 10 minutes drive from Tiverton Parkway Station. There will be the opportunity for a lift from the station; if you require a lift from the station please indicate when registering for this walk.

This is a supportive walk. We welcome those who have walked with us before and those who are new to our walks. If you have not been on our walks before, do not feel daunted about joining us, you will soon find you are among friends ,all who are similarly bereaved and understand.

                                                                                           *****

We are sorry but if you are less than 3 months bereaved, we ask that you wait until you are 3 months or more bereaved before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.

We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.

**We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes either from info@tcf.org.uk or from the walk facilitator so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details within 4/5 days of the walk).

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be¯unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

Please note that individuals join a TCF walk at their own risk.
