Dazzling Derwentwater

Dazzling Derwentwater

27 July 2024

BOOK FOR THIS WALK HERE

Bereaved parent and TCF volunteer, Sheila, is leading her next walk in the Lake District on Saturday 27 July, meeting at 9.45 am for a 10 am start

Sheila writes...

Hi! I am Sheila and am looking forward to leading this walk from Keswick and around part of Derwentwater with my faithful spaniel cross, Rosie. We invite bereaved parents, grandparents and adult siblings to join us, and well-behaved dogs are also welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.

The pretty market town of Keswick is situated near the shores of Derwentwater in the Lake District. From the Moot Hall in the centre of town we will walk through the beautiful Hope Park then into Crow Park where we will pick up the lakeshore path and walk via the stunning Friar’s Crag viewpoint to Calfclose Bay. After stopping here for a “brew with a view” we will leave the lakeshore and take a slightly different route back to Keswick where we can stop for some lunch in one of the many cafes or pubs.

It’s approximately 5 miles in total and at a steady pace with a short break it should take around 3 hours to complete the walk. The route is mostly flat with good footpaths and board walks but there are a couple of shingle bays to cross where it is uneven underfoot. Please remember it is a rural walk so you should have a reasonable level of fitness, wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs.

At our meeting place** there are several pay and display car parks.

All bereaved parent, adult siblings and grandparents are warmly welcome. I hope you will join me.

***

We are sorry but if you are less than 3 months bereaved, we ask that you wait until you are 3 months or more bereaved before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We hope to welcome you at a future walk.

We look forward to meeting those who have walked with us before, and also welcoming those who are new to our walks.

If you haven’t yet walked with us, please don’t feel daunted or apprehensive about joining. You will very quickly find yourself in a friendly, supportive community of others who are similarly bereaved.

**We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven't received details).

Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be¯unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.

To register for the walk, or to express an interest, please click ’book for this walk’.
