Booking for this walk has now closed
Compassionate Friends volunteers, and bereaved parents,Yvonne and Jancis, together with Deborah (a fellow bereaved parent), will be leading our next walk in the South West in Teignmouth. They warmly welcome bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings (over 18 years) to join them.
This is a supportive walk and we welcome those who have walked with us before and those who are new to our walks. If you have not been on our walks before do not feel daunted about joining us. You will soon find you are among friends, all of whom are similarly bereaved and understand.
The walk is 4.2 miles in total and the route is on good paths. We will be walking along the sea front and, as it should be low tide, there will also be the opportunity to walk along the beach. Our route will take us through Sprey Point, where there are good views out to sea, and then on towards the tunnel that trains travel through to Dawlish. Near there we shall turn and retrace our steps to Sprey Point where we can have our sandwiches. Nearby there will also be the opportunity for additional refreshments and also toilets. We then plan to walk to the harbour and along by the beach back to the town.
Although the paths are good, please note that is important to wear appropriate walking footwear and carry a waterproof jacket.
Well controlled dogs are welcome.
The start of the walk is convenient for the station and car parks. ***
We plan to end our walk with the opportunity for refreshments and to spend some relaxed time together before we all head home.
There will be the opportunity for others who do not want to walk to join us at the café at the end of the route at approximately 2.15- 2.30 pm. This option is on the registration form when you click on BOOK FOR THIS WALK.
If the weather is inclement, we still plan to meet, and the walk will be modified and shortened. More details about changes will be shared with you a few days before the walk once we know the weather forecast.
***
Please note that our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause.
We ask please that you wait until you are at least 3 months or more bereaved before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We very much hope to welcome you at a future walk. During this time, please contact our Helpline on 0345 123 2304 for support.
***We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you exact meeting point details and final arrangements. The email with this information comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven’t received details within 4/5 days of the walk). If you are just wanting to meet up after the walk, please register and note this and you will also be sent the details.
Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
As this is a supportive walk, we ask that we stay together as a group for the duration the walk. Thank you. Please note that all walkers join us at their own risk.
