BOOKING HAS NOW CLOSED FOR THIS WALK
Bereaved parent and TCF volunteer, Sheila is leading her next walk in the Lake District for bereaved parents, adult siblings and grandparents on Saturday 19 October, meeting at 9.45 am for a 10 am start. Well-behaved dogs are welcome. It will be an opportunity to chat to others while benefitting from some exercise and fresh air in beautiful surroundings.
The mighty Blencathra, also known as Saddleback, is one of the higher peaks in the Lake District and has 6 separate fell tops. This walk will follow a path round the side of one of these, Blease Fell, and along the valley to a stunning viewpoint where we will stop for a “brew with a view” before retracing our steps back to the car park. It’s approximately 4 miles in total and at a steady pace with a short break it should take around 2.5 hours. The walk has a gradual climb to start then is mostly flat with good footpaths apart from a rocky section at the head of the valley and a couple of streams to cross. Please remember this is a rural walk so you should have a reasonable level of fitness, wear sturdy footwear and bring waterproofs.
There is is a car park at the meeting place***
After the walk there is a lovely café in the village of Threlkeld which is a short drive down the hill if you would like to join us for a well-earned refreshment and toilet break.

Please note that our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause.
We ask please that you wait until you are at least 3 months or more bereaved before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We very much hope to welcome you at a future walk. During this time, please contact our Helpline on 0345 123 2304 for support.
***We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you more information and exact meeting point details. This email comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven’t received details within 4/5 days of the walk).
Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
As this is a supportive walk, we ask that we stay together as a group for the duration the walk. Thank you. Please note that all walkers join us at their own risk.
