Taunton Walk

11 January 2025, 11.00
Booking for this walk has now closed. If you would like to join us please email us by 5 pm on Friday 10 January 2025. Thank you.
TCF volunteers and bereaved parents, Yvonne and Jancis, will be leading this next walk on Saturday 11 January 2025, starting at 11 am, in the South West of England in Taunton and they warmly welcome bereaved parents, grandparents bereaved of a grandchild and bereaved siblings [over 18].
This is a circular walk starting in the centre of Taunton and walking westwards out by the River Tone, walking through the tranquil green space of Longrun Meadow and the nature reserve of Netherclay Community Woodland.
We shall be stopping at a café in a garden centre for coffee,and/or a light lunch, before walking on to Netherclay Community Woodland, where we can take a rest on benches beside the river Tone and enjoy our own further refreshments if we wish.
After returning to our starting place*** there will be the opportunity to relax together and have a hot drink in a café in Taunton.
The walk is about 4.5 miles and flat. The paths are good but may be muddy in places. Appropriate footwear will be needed and a waterproof coat.
Well controlled dogs are welcome.
The start of the walk*** is near the central bus stops including the stop for the Park and Ride buses and several pay and display car parks. The start is also about 15 minutes walk from the railway station. There will be the opportunity of a lift from the station if you are coming by train. Please indicate if you would like a lift from the train station when booking for the walk.
***
Please note that our peer support is for parents bereaved of a child from one month old to an adult son or daughter, from any cause.
We ask please that you wait until you are at least 3 months or more bereaved before accessing our support walks – new walk dates are added on a regular basis here. We very much hope to welcome you at a future walk. During this time, please contact our Helpline on 0345 123 2304 for support.
***We will be sending out a welcome email about a week before the walk to give you exact meeting point details and final arrangements. The email with this information comes from info@tcf.org.uk so please look out for it (please also be aware that it can sometimes go into junk or spam folders, so do check there if you have registered for the walk and haven’t received details within 4/5 days of the walk). If you are just wanting to meet up after the walk, please register and note this and you will also be sent the details.
Please note that if you bring along a friend or relative with you for initial support, they will be unable to join us for the walk itself unless they are also a bereaved parent, grandparent or adult bereaved sibling.
As this is a supportive walk, we ask that we stay together as a group for the duration the walk. Thank you. Please note that all walkers join us at their own risk.
