TCF NEWS Autumn 2021 | Issue No 108 In This Issue A newsletter for supporters of The Compassionate Friends COVER STORY: Walking Together Pg 4 Countryside Walk Pg 6 Volunteer Focus Pg 7 Grief Companion Scheme Pg 8 News & Comment Pg 10 Fundraising Round-up In late spring, at last, we were able to re-start the series of walks for bereaved parents and siblings. These informal days out together came to a halt during the coronavirus pandemic and no TCF walks had taken place since early autumn 2019. Finally in late May this year it was felt that it was safe to plan a series of spring and summer walks for bereaved parents in London. Parents and siblings from all over the south east of England – and beyond – are able to attend these days together as they usually start mid-morning from a London main-line station which can be accessed in good time from a 50-100 mile radius outside of the capital. Each walk in London or the surrounding area is around 5 miles and led by bereaved dad, Terry Ahern, often assisted by TCF member Steve Gee who helps to keep everyone together and well supported. Terry points out items and sites of interest along the way, and parents and siblings talk and share together along the route if they wish. Lunch is usually at a café or picnic-style along the route and many walkers stay on to sit and chat together over a drink at a pub at the end of the day.
