TCF News, Spring 2021

Spring 2021 - TCF Newsletter | www.tcf.org.uk 10 Ed was 21 when he died in October 2020, three weeks before his birthday – he took his own life. He was in the third year of his degree and was a very funny, loving and principled young man. We were all totally shocked by his passing and wanted to do something positive during a time of great sadness and loss and so we created Ed’s Memorial Fund. We are so grateful for the emotional and practical support from family and friends that we have received following Ed’s death but as the shock begins to wear off, and we begin our journey of living without him being here, we have also now recognised the importance of support from other parents, siblings and grandparents who are in a similar position. The Compassionate Friends resources, helpline and support groups have provided a different type of empathetic understanding and kindness that we hadn’t initially considered we would need. TCF have been invaluable during the traumatic, heart-breaking and confusing times we have travelled through in the last few months. We were therefore delighted to be able to donate £4000 in Ed’s memory to The Compassionate Friends and to also sponsor the updated support leaflet, After Suicide : Ed’s generous, thoughtful and caring nature will live on through this legacy, funded by those who knew and loved him, and I could not be more proud of my wonderful boy.
