Lisa’s story

George, my only child left us on 27 January 2012. He was 19. I am so thankful for finding The Compassionate Friends; they became my new family.

In the early days I contacted the Helpline a couple of times and now I am part of the Swindon Compassionate Friends group, which has been of immense support to me.

I connected with lots of people in the same situation as myself through the Childless Parents Forum and the Childless Parents Facebook page has been my day-to-day, night-by-night contact with parents who have no other children and parents who have lost their child to suicide.

I love the retreats, supportive weekends and bring and share lunches where I feel safe and supported by ‘those who understand’ around me.
